On 16 June, Region Uppsala and AB Transitio decided to award the contract for the procurement of trams for Uppsala. The contract has been awarded to Škoda Transtech Oy and covers the trams as well as associated maintenance and services.
The procurement includes three agreements that together form a comprehensive commitment covering the delivery and maintenance of the trams. AB Transitio is responsible for two of the agreements: the vehicle agreement and the agreement covering major scheduled maintenance of the vehicles.
Region Uppsala is responsible for the third agreement, which covers the ongoing maintenance of the vehicles during daily operations.
The procurement covers 20 trams, with the option to order up to 18 additional trams, as well as a 12-year maintenance agreement. The options are part of the procurement and are intended to meet future traffic and capacity needs.
In consultation with Uppsala Municipality, Region Uppsala has set requirements for safety, capacity, comfort, accessibility, energy efficiency, low environmental impact and operational reliability, adapted to Uppsala’s climate and urban environment throughout the vehicles’ service life of at least 30 years.
The contract award decision was announced on 16 June and can be appealed until 26 June. The agreement can be signed once the standstill period has expired.
AB Transitio is a regionally owned company, with Region Uppsala as one of its shareholders, and has managed the procurement process in cooperation with the region.
