Contessa
The first Contessa trains were delivered to SJ and DSB in 2000. They were ordered ahead of the opening of the Öresundståg service in July 2000, initially operating on the Malmö–Copenhagen route. The service was later extended to other destinations in the region, and in January 2002, services further into Sweden were also introduced. The Contessa is a three-car electric multiple unit with powered end cars and seating for a total of 229 passengers (227 after refurbishment). Rapid acceleration and a high top speed contribute to shorter journey times. The wide doors also help reduce journey times by allowing shorter station stops. The low-floor section of the centre car makes boarding and alighting easier for passengers with reduced mobility and those travelling with bulky luggage. Each trainset is equipped with a system known as the “Flex Front System”, which provides a wide gangway between units when trains are coupled together. Up to five trainsets can be operated in multiple. The Contessa was designed to minimise its environmental impact through low energy consumption and the careful selection of both production methods and materials. More than 90% of the train is recyclable.

On behalf of Mälardalstrafik and Uppsalatrafiken, Transitio is procuring 60 four-car double-decker electric multiple-unit trains of the Dosto type from Stadler. A further eight trains of the same type are being procured on behalf of Region Uppsala. The vehicles for Mälardalstrafik and Uppsalatrafiken will be delivered during 2021–2022, and those for Tåg i Bergslagen during 2022–2023. The car bodies are made from aluminium profiles, making the trains lightweight and environmentally friendly while meeting all current requirements, including crashworthiness standards. The cars are pressure-sealed, eliminating discomfort caused by sudden pressure changes, for example when passing through tunnels. The interior is spacious and bright, with generously sized entrance areas and wide stairways designed to optimise passenger flow. Sound-absorbing, non-slip flooring is fitted throughout the train. Reading lights are provided at every seat, and both the passenger areas and driver’s cabs are air-conditioned. The driver’s workstation has been designed in accordance with current requirements and the latest ergonomic principles. The driver’s cabs have two side doors and fixed steps for driver safety and are also pressure-sealed. The passenger information system is equipped with both loudspeakers and information displays.

Bombardier’s Regina is essentially a two-car electric multiple-unit train that can be extended with additional intermediate cars. Each car has two wide doors on each side and spacious vestibules, enabling efficient passenger flows even when passengers are carrying large amounts of luggage. One car also features a low-floor entrance at standard platform height, together with an internal wheelchair lift. As the Regina is a wide train, with up to five seats across, passengers have a good chance of finding a seat even during peak periods. The trains feature regenerative electric braking, an efficient traction system and track-friendly bogies. This provides good ride comfort and low operating and maintenance costs for both the trains and the track. Standard equipment includes electrical outlets in the overhead luggage racks and a mobile phone signal booster.
